Investment Opportunity: Soldera Case Basse 2020

Hi investor,

We are pleased to introduce a new offering at WineFi: the ability to invest directly in individual cases, alongside our established syndicate and portfolio structures.

This follows repeated requests from investors seeking to add to their holdings at their own discretion, with the benefit of our market-leading research to inform each decision.

To begin, we are offering an exclusive opportunity to acquire cases of 2020 Soldera Case Basse at £1,450 per case. Upon purchase, the case will be added to your WineFi platform account. If you do not yet have an account, one will be created for you.

The price represents the lowest currently listed on UK Wine-Searcher. Unlike those listings, our price also includes five years of storage and insurance at Coterie Vaults, meaning there are no additional holding costs to factor in.

These offers will operate on a first-come first-serve basis, 6 cases available.

Producer

Soldera is widely regarded as one of Italy's greatest wine estates because of its uncompromising pursuit of quality. Founded by Gianfranco Soldera at Case Basse in Montalcino, the estate produces tiny quantities of 100% Sangiovese, meticulously farming its vineyards so that every decision prioritises the expression of terroir over yield or commercial considerations. The wines are fermented with native yeasts, aged for extended periods in large Slavonian oak casks rather than new oak, and bottled unfiltered, creating wines celebrated for their extraordinary purity, perfume, elegance and ability to age for decades. Combined with extremely limited production and a cult following among collectors, Soldera has become one of the most sought-after and valuable names in Italian fine wine.

Investment Case

Soldera represents a compelling investment opportunity, currently trading at a 19% discount to our fair value estimate and a 26% discount on a price-per-point basis relative to older vintages, suggesting an attractive entry point. Historically, Soldera wines have delivered an average 8.5% CAGR, underpinned by exceptional quality, limited production and strong global demand from collectors. With the fine wine market showing signs of stabilisation, the combination of relative value and long-term performance potential makes the 2020 vintage an attractive acquisition for mid- to long-term investors.

Vintage Quality

The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino vintage is considered excellent, with a warm growing season balanced by timely August rainfall that preserved freshness and acidity. The wines are elegant and expressive, combining ripe fruit, refined tannins and excellent ageing potential.

Tasting Note

Tasted over lunch, the Soldera Case Basse 2020 100% Sangiovese shows a softly textured profile with beautifully polymerized tannins that create a taut sounding board for notes of cassis, small berry fruit, violets and crushed stone. Made with spontaneous fermentation in oversized vats and aged carefully in the family cellars in surrounding quiet and darkness, this soulful wine remains true to the spirit of Sangiovese, defined by clarity and finesse. The 2020 vintage has an accessible, open-knit character that suits it well and clearly distinguishes it from the more austere 2019 and the super precise 2021. In this context, 2020 offers a softer, more delicate interlude between the two.
