Burgundy's Finest: Producer Deep Dive

Burgundy is home to some of the world’s most prestigious and collectible wines - each estate defined by its unique terroir, heritage, and craftsmanship.

In this week’s newsletter, we spotlight three standout producers whose global reputations are matched by exceptional historical returns. Each has earned its place in Burgundy II - our latest curated investment opportunity.

Domaine D’Auvenay

Mean Lifetime CAGR: 25%

Mean 7 Year CAGR: 26%

Standard Deviation: 12%

Average Bottle Price: ÂŁ7,000

With barely four hectares of vines spread across sixteen vineyard parcels - including Grand Crus such as Chevalier‑Montrachet, Criots‑Batard‑Montrachet and Bâtard‑Montrachet - Domaine d’Auvenay stands among Burgundy’s most exclusive estates, with returns to match.

Domaine D’Auvenay Criots-Batard-Montrachet - so rare that there is only one live listing of any vintage of this label anywhere in the world.

Founded by Lalou Bize‑Leroy, known as the “Queen of Burgundy,” the domaine produces minuscule quantities of some of the world’s most coveted white Burgundies - and access to the wines, let alone the estate itself, is virtually impossible for outsiders.

Producer Spotlight

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

Mean Lifetime CAGR: 14%

Mean 7 Year CAGR: 14%

Standard Deviation: 7%

Average Bottle Price: ÂŁ350

Emerging in the mid‑2000s from a rare fusion of two historic Burgundian lineages - Pierre‑Yves Colin of Saint‑Aubin and Caroline Morey of Chassagne‑Montrachet - Domaine Pierre‑Yves Colin‑Morey was born as a profoundly personal project.

With an initial inheritance of approximately six hectares of carefully chosen terroir and harvests contracted from Grand Cru class vineyard plots, the domaine has grown quietly yet impressively.

What makes the estate exceptional is the meticulous approach Pierre‑Yves applies to every stage: from vineyard timing to slow pressing into 350‑litre barrels, avoiding lees‑stirring or filtration, and letting the wines rest two winters in gravity‑fed, temperature‑controlled cellars .

The result is a style of Chardonnay that marries chiselled minerality with clarity, tension and depth - so highly regarded that critics consistently compare his whites to benchmark names such as Leflaive and Roulot.

Producer Spotlight

Domaine Armand Rousseau

Mean Lifetime CAGR: 12%

Mean 7 Year CAGR: 12%

Standard Deviation: 6%

Average Bottle Price: ÂŁ1,366

From the moment Armand Rousseau inherited vineyards and cellars in Gevrey‑Chambertin in 1909, the estate set itself apart. With early adoption of estate bottling in the 1930s - alongside direct export to the US after Prohibition - Rousseau not only disrupted the traditional négociant model, but positioned itself as a pioneer of Burgundy’s modern identity.

Each label tells a story - iconic bottles from Armand Rousseau that trace the contours of Burgundy’s most revered terroirs.

Through each vineyard acquisition - Chambertin, Clos de Bèze, Clos de la Roche, Clos des Ruchottes - the domaine carefully assembled some of Burgundy’s most eminent parcels, a process spanning decades and conducted with familial dedication.
